Melisa Taylor-Metzger uses the natural world as a blue-print to work from while integrating references from art history and contemporary Canadian culture. Her paintings are mix-media, as she is interested in an aesthetic of duality between layers of paint through a process that uses non-traditional techniques and commercial tools. Taylor-Metzger is interested in the unpredictability of her art-making. Embracing chance and intervening with appropriate timing is a central anchor in her practice: Arbitrariness versus control, organic process versus mechanical execution converge simultaneously in her paintings. Recently, she has embraced aerosol, pyrography, electric sanding and stencilling techniques on wood panels.
Melisa Taylor-Metzger has been exhibiting professionally for over 10 years. Her work is part of major private and commercial collections across Canada.
